Day 3 – 6:30 a.m. morning rinse

Day 3 broccoli sprouts definitely occupy more space in the jar and as such require more water to rinse.

The broccoli sprouts are growing incredibly fast. Rinsing procedure changes on Day 3.

First, I change from the small opening yellow lids to the large opening orange lids.  I’m able to pour the filtered water straight into the jars through the lids, AND when I empty the water I start discarding the broccoli seed hulls.

  • replace the yellow lid with the orange lid
  • through the orange lid, add approx. 2  cups of filtered water
  • cover the lid with your hand and shake the jar up & down to rinse the sprouts
  • pour water off (quite a few hulls will be discarded)
  • distribute sprouts around jar
  • place in sprouting rack
  • cover sprouting rack with towels

Sprout growth is much more aggressive.

Inside the jar on Day 3.

Day 3 a.m. rinsing – time to change to the large opening orange lids.

The larger opening on the orange lids allow filter water to be added directly.

On Day 3 more water is necessary to rinse AND seed hulls have begun to separate from the sprout. Notice the hulls are floating on top.

Since the seed hulls float to the top when you add filtered water when you drain the water it’s a perfect opportunity to dispose of as many of the hulls as possible. Notice the discarded hulls in the sink.

Since on day 3 the sprouts occupy a lot more space they require quite a bit more water to rinse. Using a drain board allows the water to run off in to your sink.

When you’ve drained the water it’s important to shake the jar and distribute the spouts as much as possible.

Remember to…

  • place jars in sprouting rack
  • cover with towels

Day 3 – 2:00 p.m. afternoon rinse

Day 3 broccoli sprouts definitely occupy more space in the jar and as such require more water to rinse.

  • drain water through the the lid
  • add approx. 2  cups of filtered water
  • cover the lid with your hand and shake the jar up & down to rinse the sprouts
  • pour water off (quite a few hulls will be discarded)
  • distribute sprouts around jar
  • place in sprouting rack
  • cover sprouting rack with towels

It’s pretty clear that day 3 is a substantial growth day.

Day 3 – 9:00 p.m. last rinse of the day
